Moped Rider Injured in Farrington Highway Collision in Maili
Maili, HI – A 41-year-old moped rider was critically injured in a collision on Farrington Highway late Friday night.
At approximately 11 p.m., a 44-year-old woman driving east on the highway turned left onto Kaukamana Street, striking the westbound moped rider who was reportedly riding without illuminated headlights, according to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) Traffic Division.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene near Maili Beach Park, treating the victim for severe injuries before transporting him to a local hospital in critical condition. Authorities confirmed that the moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
The driver and a 28-year-old female passenger remained at the scene and reported no injuries. Police stated that it remains unclear whether speed, drugs, or alcohol played a role in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
