MONONA, Wis. — A rollover crash on the Beltline Tuesday morning has led to the identification and citation of the driver involved, as confirmed by the Monona Police Department. A 19-year-old man from Madison acknowledged his role in the incident and received citations for reckless driving, operating after revocation, and unsafe lane deviation.
According to police, initial reports suggested the driver might have sought refuge in the Marriott parking lot near John Nolen Drive. Officers conducted a thorough search of the lot and surrounding areas but could not locate the suspect's vehicle at that time.
Later developments revealed that the driver did call 911 following the crash, and this information was properly documented by dispatch. As a result, authorities no longer classify this case as a hit-and-run.
The collision unfolded when the driver of a white Jeep Renegade made an unsafe lane change while traveling in the flex lane, inadvertently cutting off another vehicle. This maneuver resulted in a collision that sent the victim's vehicle rolling across several lanes of westbound traffic. Following the crash, the driver of the Jeep continued west without stopping.
Dashcam footage from a nearby driver vividly captured the moment of the crash. On Wednesday, police received a tip that the Jeep may have been parked in an underground lot located in the 3800 block of Monona Drive. Officers were able to confirm that this vehicle was, in fact, the one involved in the earlier incident.
Monona Police expressed gratitude towards community members who provided valuable information that assisted in locating the suspect's vehicle and ultimately identifying the driver.
