BUCKFIELD, ME — A 24-year-old man died in a head-on crash on Route 117 Wednesday evening, according to state police.
The incident occurred when the man, driving a Volkswagen Beetle, crossed the centerline and collided with a Ford F-350 pickup truck. The 55-year-old woman driving the truck was transported to the hospital with injuries that authorities said are not life-threatening.
Route 117 was closed for several hours after the accident but has since reopened. Emergency response included Maine State Police, Oxford County Sheriff's Office deputies, and Buckfield Fire and Rescue.
Authorities indicated the names of the drivers will be released Thursday, pending family notifications. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
