BOAT CRASH AT LOGAN AIRPORT PIER KILLS ONE, INJURES THREE
BOSTON, MA — A recreational boat crashed into a runway pier at Logan International Airport late Wednesday night, resulting in one fatality and three injuries.
The incident occurred just before 11:30 p.m. when a small twin-engine boat struck the runway 4R pier. According to the Suffolk District Attorney's Office, Elizabeth Dankert, 24, of Andover, was killed in the crash. The three others on board, including two women aged 23 and a 40-year-old man, sustained injuries and were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. All are expected to survive.
The Freedom Boat Club, which owns the vessel, stated the boat was “taken without authorization” and operated outside normal protocols. Investigators have not confirmed if any charges will be filed; an active investigation is ongoing.
Authorities reported that the crash did not impact airport services, though runway 4R was temporarily closed for the response and investigation.
Boston EMS rescued the injured amid challenging conditions, including darkness and slick rocks. The investigation continues, with details surrounding the circumstances of the crash still unverified.
