LaPlace Man Dies in Crash at Weigh Station, Tangipahoa Parish
A LaPlace man died Monday night after driving off Interstate 55 and crashing into a weigh station in Tangipahoa Parish.
Kylen R. Wilkens, 37, was traveling south on I-55 in a 2017 Acura TLX when he veered off the roadway just north of Highway 1050 around 8:40 p.m., according to Louisiana State Police. Wilkens left the road to the right and struck a state weigh station. He was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The weigh station was closed at the time of the incident, and no other vehicles were involved.
Toxicology results are pending, and the crash is under investigation, authorities said.
