An Air Canada Express plane collided with a Port Authority fire truck at LaGuardia Airport on March 23, 2026, resulting in one fatality and over 40 injuries.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. as Flight AC8646, arriving from Montreal, was landing. The collision caused significant damage to both the aircraft and the fire truck, leading to a full ground stoppage at the airport.
According to the Port Authority, the pilot of the fire truck was killed. More than 40 passengers aboard the aircraft sustained injuries; however, details regarding their conditions are still being assessed.
Emergency personnel responded swiftly, and the airport was temporarily closed. All flights in and out of LaGuardia were canceled until further notice. Recovery operations are ongoing, and an investigation has been initiated.
Authorities said lane closures around the airport will remain in effect while cleanup and investigative efforts continue.
