Killed in Crash on Interstate 76 Near Commerce City

COMMERCE CITY, CO — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a truck on Interstate 76 early Friday morning, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The incident occurred at 6:09 a.m. at milepost 6, just east of the interchange with Interstate 25. A Peterbilt trash truck traveling westbound collided with the pedestrian, who died at the scene. Details regarding the identity of the pedestrian have not been released, and it remains unclear where on the roadway the pedestrian was walking, Trooper Gabriel Moltrer stated.

The truck driver remained at the scene following the crash. Authorities confirmed that the westbound lanes of Interstate 76 were closed for the investigation. As of 7:20 a.m., there was no estimated time for the reopening of the lanes.

The investigation is ongoing.
