A high-speed police chase in Fond du Lac County on Tuesday ended in a dramatic crash into a field.

The pursuit began around 2:41 p.m. after state troopers attempted a traffic stop and discovered the driver, 44-year-old Dewayne Stokes of Milwaukee, had an active felony warrant. When deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office responded, the driver fled, prompting a chase spanning approximately 4.5 miles across local roads and the interstate.

Authorities reported the driver reversed direction off an exit ramp and navigated through streets and parking lots before exiting the interstate at high speed. He lost control, drove into a ditch, and launched his vehicle over a roadway, narrowly missing another vehicle below.

The landed in a field, where Stokes and a passenger attempted to flee the scene. Deputies apprehended Stokes shortly thereafter.

Stokes sustained minor injuries and was treated before being taken into custody. Authorities said he was already on bond from a separate felony case involving an alleged stolen vehicle.

He now faces multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding police, recklessly endangering safety, bail jumping, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm by a felon, and marijuana possession. The incident remains under investigation by local law enforcement agencies.
