LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX NEWS) — Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear marked the 20th anniversary of the Comair Flight 5191 crash, reflecting on the lasting pain for victims’ families.

Governor Beshear recalled his personal distress upon hearing the news of the crash. “My mom was scheduled to be on that flight the next day,” he said. “I remember scrambling to call and getting in touch with her, but knowing how many families didn’t have that same type of news.”

Despite the passage of time, Beshear acknowledged that many families might still feel “frozen in time.” He drew parallels with his own loss, remembering a friend from 9/11 who never aged in his memory. “I still see him at 22—he never got a chance to experience life milestones,” he noted.

Beshear emphasized that this anniversary is a painful reminder for those who lost loved ones, reaffirming the enduring impact of such tragedies on personal lives and communities.
