MOUNT PLEASANT, SC — April 2, 2023 — A juvenile cyclist was injured in a collision with a golf cart in Mount Pleasant.
Authorities responded to the incident at the intersection of Oakhaven Boulevard and Oak Landing Road. According to the police report, the golf cart operator backed into the cyclist, who was seated on their bicycle, causing the bike to be partially dragged under the cart. The report does not clarify if the cyclist was trapped beneath the vehicle prior to the driver fleeing the scene.
Two witnesses confirmed the events in statements consistent with the victim's account. The golf cart driver, also a juvenile, faces charges of first-degree assault and battery, as well as driving without a license. The driver's mother received a citation related to the incident.
Police stated that the juvenile has previously been warned about operating the golf cart on public roadways without a valid license. The driver was released into the custody of their mother under a signed custodial promise.
