Bicyclist Injured in Rehoboth Beach Collision Released from Hospital

Rehoboth Beach, DE – A 21-year-old female bicyclist was released from the hospital on July 9 after being struck by a vehicle early that morning.

According to witnesses, the collision occurred at 1:08 a.m. when Megan Smith, 20, of Lewes, allegedly hit the victim while driving. Police charged Smith with felony forgery, DUI, inattentive driving, and several other offenses, including failure to report the incident.

Authorities said Smith's forgery charge relates to a fake identification card. She has been released on her own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing in Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.

Matt Weiner, owner of Zelky's amusement center where the victim worked, reported that she has a challenging recovery ahead. A GoFundMe page has been established to assist with her medical expenses, transportation, and lost wages.
