STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WRTV) — Traffic has resumed on the Indiana Toll Road following an overnight crash involving four semis that closed eastbound lanes for several hours.
According to Indiana State Police, the incident occurred near mile marker 151.2 at 10:39 p.m. on Monday. Traffic had slowed in a work zone at the Eastpoint Toll Plaza when a blue 2020 Volvo, driven by 39-year-old Ruslan Piddaniuk of Parma, Ohio, struck stopped vehicles, resulting in a multi-vehicle collision involving three additional semis.
One semi caught fire during the crash; however, the driver exited safely, authorities reported. Two drivers were transported to a local hospital with complaints of pain and have since been treated and released.
Emergency responders rerouted eastbound traffic at Angola Exit 144 as crews worked to clear the scene. Lanes reopened around 6:45 a.m.
