NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans police officer was injured in a crash on Thursday evening at Woodland Drive and MacArthur Boulevard.
Authorities said the incident involved a Lexus SUV and occurred around 6:00 p.m. Neighbors reported hearing a loud noise and rushed to assist before emergency responders arrived.
According to witnesses, a former nurse, Naomi Davis, provided immediate help to the unresponsive officer inside his patrol unit. “I heard a big, loud crash,” Davis said. She confirmed the officer was unconscious but was able to nod slightly when asked if he could breathe.
Davis utilized the officer's radio to call for assistance, stating, “An unconscious officer is at the corner of Woodland and MacArthur and needs help.” She mentioned that previous incidents in the area had resulted in lengthy response times.
The officer has since been transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover, according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
Authorities will continue to gather details as the investigation unfolds.
