ELBERFELD, Ind. (WISH) — A five-vehicle crash on Interstate 69 near Booneville New Harmony Road left six injured Monday morning.
Just before 9 a.m., deputies from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of the collision. All six individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to local hospitals for treatment.
Initial investigations revealed that a semitractor-trailer failed to stop in a construction zone, rear-ending another vehicle and triggering a chain reaction with additional cars. According to a press release from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office, the driver of the tractor-trailer claimed brake issues contributed to the accident.
Authorities confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected as contributing factors. All drivers agreed to testing in compliance with Indiana law following crashes involving injuries.
Due to the involvement of the semitractor-trailer, the Indiana State Police Motor Vehicle Inspector was called to assist. The investigation is ongoing.
