Fatal crash in Topsham leaves one dead, two injured.

TOPSHAM, ME — A late Saturday night on Route 196 near the Merrymeeting Bridge resulted in one fatality and two serious injuries.

Authorities identified the victim as 23-year-old Marcus Steinman of Topsham. He was a passenger in a 2019 Volvo that collided with a 2020 GMC pickup truck around 10:38 p.m., according to the Topsham Police Department.

Preliminary investigations indicate that one vehicle crossed the centerline, although it remains unconfirmed which vehicle was at fault. Steinman was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, where he later died from his injuries.

The drivers of both vehicles—identified as 34-year-old Joseph Lemont of Bowdoin in the GMC and 25-year-old Lacey Wiles of Hermon in the Volvo—are at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.

The crash is under investigation, and Topsham police have not released additional details at this time. There were no reports of road closures or delays following the incident.
