One Dead, Three Injured in Maine Turnpike Crash
GRAY, ME—A late-night crash on the Maine Turnpike resulted in one fatality and three injuries on Friday, October 20, at 11:47 p.m., according to Maine State Police.
Authorities reported that a 2010 Honda Fit, driven by 31-year-old Megan Stuart of Auburn, swerved to avoid a deer at mile marker 60, subsequently hitting the median guardrail and spinning into oncoming traffic.
The Fit collided head-on with a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu also traveling north. Authorities confirmed that Stuart sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center. However, a passenger in the Fit, 38-year-old Soda Mao, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the Malibu suffered minor injuries, police stated.
Emergency crews closed the turnpike for approximately 20 minutes, with one lane remaining closed for about two hours to clear the scene.
