Driver Killed in Rollover Crash on STH 23 in Lafayette County.

DARLINGTON, Wis. — A tragic accident on State Highway 23 claimed the life of a 77-year-old man on Thursday afternoon in the Town of Willow Springs. Lawrence Wedig, a resident of rural Darlington, was driving a 2024 Ram southbound when his vehicle veered off the highway.

According to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office, the truck left the roadway and entered the west side ditch, where it struck an embankment. The force of the impact caused the truck to roll over, resulting in Wedig being as the vehicle came to a stop on its wheels.

The incident occurred around 4:51 p.m. in the 14000 block of STH 23. Responding units included the Lafayette County deputies, Lafayette County EMS, and the Darlington Fire Department.

Wedig sustained life-threatening injuries and was initially transported to Lafayette County Hospital by EMS. He was later to UW Hospital in Madison via Med Flight, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Al's Towing and Recovery was also present to assist in the aftermath of the collision. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

This incident marks the third motor vehicle fatality reported in Lafayette County for 2026.
