LANCASTER, Ohio — A 29-year-old Wellston man died Thursday after a Wednesday morning rollover on U.S. Route 33 near milepost 24 in Fairfield County.
Troopers from the Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded shortly after 6 a.m. Wednesday to the crash on U.S. Route 33 in Berne Township, authorities said.
Investigators said a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Melvin Waldron, 29, was northbound when it went off the right side, struck an embankment and overturned.
The driver was ejected and flown by Air Evac to Grant Medical Center, where he died Thursday, authorities said.
According to witness statements, Waldron and other vehicles, including a black Honda sedan, were driving recklessly through traffic immediately before the crash.
Investigators ask anyone with information about the black Honda sedan or the crash to contact the Lancaster Post at 740-654-1523. The crash remains under investigation.
