One Dead in Crash on U.S. Highway 30 in Atkins, Iowa

ATKINS, Iowa — A truck driver was killed in a crash on U.S. Highway 30 near Atkins on Monday night.

The Iowa State Patrol reported that a Cedar Rapids driver rear-ended a pickup truck around 10:15 p.m., causing the truck to enter the ditch, cross the median, and roll multiple times. The truck driver was at the scene.

Authorities have yet to file any charges related to the incident. The Iowa Department of Transportation reports that 70 fatalities have occurred on Iowa roads this year, an increase of 16 compared to the same period in 2025. Annual average fatalities in Iowa over the past five years stand at 337.
