Driver critically injured in Baldwin crash after passing attempt

Baldwin, Maine — A 21-year-old driver was critically injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Pequawket Trail.

The incident occurred around 5:10 p.m. near 1230 Pequawket Trail, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. Ashtin Harding of Denmark was operating a F-150 when he attempted to pass a Subaru Outback driven by a 20-year-old man from Baldwin. Both vehicles collided, causing them to veer off the roadway.

Harding was transported by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Subaru, whose identity has not been released, was uninjured.

Images shared by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office depict the Subaru upright in a grassy area, while the F-150 is shown overturned in a wooded section.

Authorities have not disclosed the specifics of how the collision occurred or whether any charges will be filed. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
