GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. — A 20-year-old Midlothian man suffered serious injuries early Saturday morning when his vehicle crashed into a Goochland County fire truck responding to a prior incident on Route 288.
At approximately 12:00 a.m. Saturday, Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on southbound Route 288 near the James River Bridge. The initial crash involved a car hitting a guardrail.
While firefighters were on scene with their truck blocking the left lane and displaying emergency lights, a second vehicle collided with the fire truck, authorities said.
The driver of the second vehicle, Edgar Ruiz Carrillo, 20, of Midlothian, sustained serious injuries. No firefighters were injured in the incident.
The driver involved in the initial crash was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Both crashes remain under investigation by Virginia State Police.
