CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (TNND) — A deputy rescued a woman from a burning vehicle after a crash on Interstate 77 on May 23.
According to the Chester County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Daniel Threatt arrived at a single-vehicle rollover crash. The vehicle was overturned and partially engulfed in flames with the driver trapped inside.
Deputy Threatt, the first responder on the scene, immediately took action to pull the 43-year-old woman from the wreckage. Additional first responders soon arrived to extinguish the fire and provide medical assistance.
Authorities confirmed that the driver, Carletta Bush, was en route to Charlotte to celebrate the conclusion of her radiation treatments for breast cancer.
Body camera footage showed Threatt breaking a window to gain access to the vehicle as the flames intensified. “I called out to her, and she said she was stuck in the seat belt,” Threatt recalled. “I was thinking, well, this car could blow up at any moment.”
Bush praised Deputy Threatt as her “guardian angel,” noting that he was her only hope during the crisis.
After the incident, Threatt visited Bush in the hospital, highlighting the significant impact of the rescue on his career. He stated, “I've got to give all glory to God. This was probably the coolest thing I've done in my career.”
No further details have been released regarding the investigation into the crash.
