Laurel, DE – Aug. 30, 2026, 10:47 a.m. ET: A fatal vehicle crash occurred on Salt Barn Road in Laurel on Aug. 27, resulting in one death.
According to Delaware State Police, 54-year-old Norma Eckard of Delmar was driving a Kia Sportage southbound when she approached a stop sign at Old Stage Road around 5 p.m. Witnesses reported the vehicle failed to stop, leading to the collision.
Authorities confirmed that Eckard sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Emergency medical services responded and transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The scene was managed by multiple emergency response units, and both directions of Salt Barn Road were closed during the investigation. Lane closures remained in effect for several hours as officials collected evidence.
