MCHENRY, Ill. — A 48-year-old woman was killed Saturday afternoon when a pontoon boat struck another vessel on the Fox River near McHenry, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Magdalena Jablonska, 48, according to NBC 5 Chicago, citing authorities.
Prosecutors said a 31-foot pontoon boat allegedly operated by Richard Stevenson, 45, collided with the rear of a 20-foot Crownline at about 2:30 p.m. south of the McHenry Dam, then rode over the smaller boat, causing fatal injuries.
Authorities said Stevenson was found near the scene after his pontoon ran aground and was taken to a hospital, where a blood test showed a blood alcohol concentration of approximately 0.200, more than twice Illinois' legal limit.
Witnesses reported Stevenson had been consuming alcohol and operating at high speeds on the Chain O' Lakes and the Fox River prior to the crash, according to the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.
Stevenson appeared in court Monday and was charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence causing death and one count of reckless homicide, prosecutors said.
A judge ordered Stevenson held pending trial, with a court date set for Aug. 5, authorities said.
