Three Defendants in Toms River Racing Incident Appear in Court

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Three defendants charged in a fatal racing incident on Route 9 appeared in court on Monday, following the crash that killed one person and injured several others.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Friday, near the intersection of Route 9 and Oak Avenue. According to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, two vehicles were involved: a red Ford Mustang and a blue Camaro.

Authorities reported that the races resulted in a , leading to one fatality and three severe injuries. A 28-year-old male victim was at the scene, while three other individuals were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and transported to Community Medical Center for medical aid.

Emergency responders from the Toms River Fire Department and the Toms River Police Department were on the scene. The southbound lanes of Route 9 were closed for approximately three hours while officials conducted an investigation and cleared the wreckage.

The investigation, led by the Toms River Police Department, remains active, with authorities reviewing witness statements and surveillance footage. The three defendants, aged 19, 21, and 22, face multiple charges related to and vehicular homicide.
