FULLERTON, California — A 35-year-old act of kindness was recognized recently when Jennifer McLaughlin reunited with Rhonda Ray, the woman who comforted her after a fatal crash in 1990.

At just 9 years old, McLaughlin survived a collision on Harbor Boulevard that tragically claimed the life of her 29-year-old sister, Tammy. According to McLaughlin, she has little memory from that night, but she vividly recalls Ray, who stopped her vehicle to offer assistance.

Witnesses reported that Ray stayed with McLaughlin during the traumatic event, even accompanying her to the hospital until her parents arrived. Ray noticed McLaughlin standing alone, visibly shaken and in shock.

“For 35 years, I thought about Rhonda,” McLaughlin stated. After returning to Orange County and frequently passing the crash site, she decided to seek out Ray to express her gratitude.

Using social media, McLaughlin posted in a local Facebook group, appealing for help to identify the woman who had helped her. The community responded, with Ray's daughter recognizing the story and notifying her mother.

Ray and McLaughlin connected over the phone, both expressing their emotions. “I was so happy she's okay,” Ray remarked.

McLaughlin believes that Ray's compassionate act shaped her into a better person. Their reunion serves as a reminder of the positive impact one individual can have during a crisis. They now plan to maintain their connection.
