A 24-year-old Cottage Grove woman died on Feb. 14 following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near milepost 167.
According to the Oregon State Police, Leyla Ann Ayers was driving a silver Honda Odyssey southbound on I-5 near Cottage Grove shortly before 1 a.m. when the vehicle veered off the right shoulder, struck a roadside embankment, and overturned.
Ayers was ejected from the vehicle, which came to rest partially blocking the highway. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
OSP officials stated that alcohol may have contributed to the incident.
No further information about other vehicles or injuries has been released at this time. Lane closures were in effect during the emergency response.
The investigation remains ongoing.
