CLEARWATER, Fla. — Two Clearwater police officers rescued a woman from a sinking car in a pond Thursday evening.
According to Clearwater Police, the incident occurred around 6:34 p.m. near McMullen Booth Road and Enterprise Road when a vehicle entered the water.
Officers Jonathan Hurt and Hunter Smaldone responded to the scene. Witnesses reported the car was rapidly submerging.
The officers swam to the vehicle and attempted to open the locked driver's side door, but received no response from the driver.
Officer Hurt broke the window, unlocked the door, and safely extracted the 45-year-old woman, bringing her back to shore.
The driver was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital for treatment.
