Recalls Over 61,000 Cherokees Due to Powertrain Issue

DETROIT (WKRC) – Chrysler has issued a recall affecting more than 61,000 Jeep Cherokee vehicles due to a potential powertrain failure.

The recall includes certain 2019 through 2023 Jeep Cherokee SUVs, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Authorities reported that a defective power transfer unit (PTU) may lead to a loss of drive power or unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash.

The affected vehicle count stands at approximately 61,711. Chrysler, a division of FCA US LLC, indicated that a remedy is currently under development. Owners will receive notification letters starting June 25, detailing the safety risk, with follow-up communication once a fix is available.

For further assistance, owners can contact FCA Customer Service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number 40D. Vehicle identification numbers associated with the recall will be searchable on the NHTSA website beginning May 14.
