Crashes into Jackson Apartment, Residents Call for Intersection Improvements

JACKSON, Miss. — On the morning of September 28, a vehicle collided with an apartment at the intersection of Ludlow Ave. and Crawford St., startling residents.

The crash occurred around 8:00 a.m., with witnesses stating it woke Sammie Hopkins and his uncle, who were asleep just inside the wall where the incident occurred. Authorities confirmed no injuries were reported.

Residents have expressed ongoing concern regarding the intersection, citing frequent accidents. “At the sign, they'll stop. But the majority of the time, they're running through the stop sign,” Hopkins said.

Councilman Kenneth Stokes noted that while the intersection was modified by the Public Works Department to have a stop sign in all four directions, it remains a two-way stop. He called for immediate action to enhance safety, stating, “This is not the first time this home has been hit.”

Residents are advocating for additional safety measures, including potential installation of speed bumps at the corners. “If they're not going to have speed bumps all the way on the street, at least have it on each corner,” Hopkins suggested.

Stokes emphasized the need for a community meeting to discuss solutions, including the proposed four-way stop, and indicated that representatives from the Public Works Department and Jackson Police should be present.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with no additional information released at this time.
