Historic Cemetery Damaged in Car Wreck

SAVANNAH, GA — A vehicle crashed into the historic Ann Street Cemetery on Sunday, October 1, at approximately 3:20 p.m., causing significant damage to several gravestones.

According to the Savannah Police Department, a sedan veered off the roadway on Ann Street, striking multiple headstones before coming to a stop. Two individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center for treatment.

Emergency responders from the Savannah Fire Department arrived on the scene to assess the situation and provide aid. Traffic was affected, with lanes on Ann Street temporarily closed for cleanup and investigation.

Authorities said the driver of the sedan is a 26-year-old male, who reported losing control of the vehicle due to a medical issue. Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash and seeing debris scattered across the cemetery grounds.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and there were no reported fatalities. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
