LOS ANGELES (TNND) — A B-52 bomber crashed shortly after takeoff at Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of all eight individuals on board.

Emergency responders were dispatched immediately following the crash, which caused a significant fire and black smoke to rise from the area near the airfield. Authorities confirmed that the B-52 was engaged in the Air Force's radar modernization program at the time of the incident.

Col. James Hayes, deputy commander of the 412th Test Wing, stated that the crash left no survivors, emphasizing the loss of “eight great Americans.” Among those on board were government contractors and military personnel, including two Boeing employees.

A preliminary investigation suggests the aircraft experienced a potential flight-control malfunction shortly after takeoff. Aviation safety expert Jeff Guzzetti indicated the rapid descent could be indicative of possible maintenance errors or catastrophic .
