COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The remains of three airmen killed in a March 12 refueling crash in Iraq were returned to Ohio on Sunday.
Capt. Seth R. Koval, Master Sgt. Tyler H. Simmons, and Capt. Curtis J. Angst were among six service members who perished when a U.S. Air Force KC-135 aircraft crashed during combat operations.
The remains of one airman were transported from Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base on Sunday afternoon to a local funeral home for private services. The event is not open to the public.
The three airmen were assigned to the 121st Air Refueling Wing based at Rickenbacker. They died alongside three members of the 6th Air Refueling Wing from MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, who were also involved in the incident.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash. Further details regarding the circumstances are pending.
