KOKOMO, Ind. — A Kokomo man was killed early Friday in a rollover crash involving a utility pole.
The incident occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. on October 2, near West Superior Street and Washington Street. Howard County Dispatch received an alert from a crash detection system in a 2022 Toyota, which was found flipped over after striking a utility pole.
The Kokomo Police Department confirmed the vehicle had previously fled from an officer shortly before the crash. Authorities identified the driver as Tanner Jake Turley, 27, of Kokomo. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Howard County Coroner, who arrived at 3:00 a.m. Turley was the only occupant of the vehicle, and his family has been notified.
According to the Indiana State Police Critical Incident Reconstruction Team, the preliminary investigation indicates that Turley's vehicle left the roadway, hit the utility pole, and overturned. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor.
A forensic pathologist has scheduled an autopsy for Monday at the Howard County Coroner's Office. The cause and manner of death are pending autopsy and toxicology results.
