ST. GEORGE, Utah (TNND) — Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged assassination of Charlie Kirk following a car crash on September 10.
Footage from the St. George Police Department shows Robinson calmly discussing the car crash with officers before his mother provided insurance details. The young man appeared cooperative and even joked about vehicle maintenance.
Family members described Robinson as having been radicalized through dark corners of the internet, according to Utah Governor Spencer Cox. “Friends have confirmed that there was kind of that deep, dark internet,” he stated. A family member reportedly notified authorities that Robinson implied he was involved in the shooting.
Robinson's father identified him in photos released by the FBI, which were part of the investigation into the shooting. Additionally, his roommate shared messages from the chatting app Discord that referenced a rifle and specific ammunition.
Following a 33-hour manhunt, Robinson was taken into custody and charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, two counts of capital obstruction of justice, and multiple counts of witness tampering. Utah prosecutors have indicated that they will seek the death penalty in this case.
