LAKELAND, Fla. — A multi-vehicle crash on I-4 westbound near Exit 38 (SR 33) closed the roadway for several hours on Monday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident occurred at approximately 3:50 p.m. Two young men sustained serious injuries when their Lexus sedan collided with a disabled tractor-trailer before being struck by another semi-truck.
FHP reported that the sedan first entered the outside shoulder, impacting the parked tractor-trailer. It subsequently rotated back into traffic, leading to the collision with the second semi-truck traveling in the center lane.
The driver of the Lexus, a 20-year-old man from Winter Haven, and his passenger, a 19-year-old Orlando man, were both transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. The drivers of both tractor-trailers were not injured.
Emergency response teams were on the scene, and the westbound lanes of I-4 were reopened once the situation was stabilized and debris cleared.
