TURNER — An Androscoggin County Sheriff's deputy was early Saturday following a police chase that ended in a crash and subsequent shootout on Route 4.

Authorities confirmed the deputy's injuries are serious but non-life-threatening. As part of the emergency response, a LifeFlight helicopter was dispatched to transport another patient from the scene.

Witnesses reported that the chase culminated in a crash near the intersection of Routes 4 and 117 shortly after midnight. As law enforcement arrived, shots were fired at them, prompting police to return fire, injuring the suspected shooter.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Androscoggin County Sheriff Eric Samson confirmed an investigation into the officer-involved shooting had begun. Maine State Police are expected to lead the investigation.

Further details have not been released at this time. Lane closures on Route 4 may remain in effect as authorities continue their inquiries.
