Vehicle Falls Off Interstate 526, Causing Morning Crash.

MOUNT PLEASANT — A morning crash involving a police officer occurred on Interstate 526 at Mathis Ferry Road on October 5, 2023.

At approximately 8:50 a.m., a vehicle lost control on I-526 eastbound, resulting in it falling onto Mathis Ferry Road. The officer, responding to the initial collision, was later involved in a separate crash at the intersection of Highway 17 and Anna Knapp Boulevard.

Emergency Medical Services transported the officer with moderate injuries; the driver of the other vehicle at that scene reported no injuries. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the officer's involvement in the second collision.

The driver of the vehicle that fell from I-526 declined EMS transport, citing minor injuries. The Mount Pleasant Police Department is handling the investigation of that incident.

No lane closures were reported on I-526 due to the incidents. Further updates will be provided as the investigations continue.
