CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Students at Circleville High School gathered for donuts and hugs on Monday to honor 16-year-old Drace Johnson, who tragically died in a weekend crash.
Johnson was a passenger in a Ford F-250 truck, driven by a 17-year-old who crashed into a house after striking a guard rail on State Route 762. The driver, who had been drinking prior to the incident, was arrested for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, according to the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office.
A posted crash report indicated the driver's breath alcohol test registered at .009. Authorities stated that charges are upcoming but have not yet been filed.
Community member Nicole Turner highlighted the significance of the gathering, stating, “It takes a community to come together.” She noted that many students were returning to school for the first time that week, as they are preparing for a game.
In tribute to Johnson, students wore blue, his favorite color. Johnson's mother expressed her gratitude to the driver who remained with her son, acknowledging the emotional burden they now face.
While the community mourns the loss, Drace Johnson's spirit and impact will not be forgotten.
