A 58-year-old driver died after a semitrailer's tire broke loose and struck multiple vehicles on Interstate 70 on Friday, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Kwaku Nyamekye, 58.
According to investigators, the left rear tire of the semitrailer detached, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit Nyamekye's red Ford Taurus, which then struck the median.
Authorities said Nyamekye died a short time later.
Several other vehicles were struck in the incident; investigators are determining whether charges could be filed against the truck driver.
Details on lane closures, tows and the trucking company were not immediately released. The investigation remains active.
