SHIVELY, Ky. — A crash on Dixie Highway resulted in the death of 13-year-old Muna Sheikh and injuries to two other teenage girls on [insert date and time].
According to Shively Police, the driver was an unidentified woman in her mid-80s. Authorities stated that criminal charges are still under consideration as the investigation continues.
Muna's family is demanding accountability. Her sister, Safia Sheikh, expressed distress about the incident. “Seeing my little sisters like that was so traumatizing,” she said. Her other sister, Nahyio Sheikh, added, “We want justice for our little sister who only made it 13 years into this world.”
Muna's mother, Nadifo Musse, through a translator, emphasized the difficulty of navigating the system for information. “It shouldn't take a family trying to understand to get answers,” she said.
Meanwhile, Azziza's mother, Bishro Hussein, emphasized the need for accountability, noting, “If the individual was sick or impaired, accountability has to happen.”
Louisville Metro Councilwoman Shameka Parrish-Wright pledged to advocate for the family, stating the press conference aimed to raise awareness about the families' experiences since the tragedy.
Witness Terrell Simmons called for increased safety measures on Dixie Highway, suggesting the installation of guardrails to protect pedestrians. “It's a highway, just like any highway,” he remarked.
Shively Police confirmed they are continuing their investigation and are in contact with the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. The two injured girls are reportedly recovering and have been released from the hospital.
