PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A 22-year-old man was arrested after two pursuits and a crash in Tacoma on Saturday, June 20, 2026, near SR 512, authorities said.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, the incident began at about 5:22 p.m. when a deputy attempted a traffic stop near the Alta Apartments off Steel Street South. The driver failed to yield and sped northbound on Steel Street South.
Deputies said traffic briefly slowed the vehicle, allowing them to deploy a tracking device before terminating the pursuit.
A few minutes later, deputies located the vehicle stopped near South 84th Street and Yakima Avenue. Authorities said the suspect was trying to remove the device when deputies approached.
The man allegedly reentered the vehicle and fled again, heading northbound before turning onto Pacific Avenue South, authorities said.
Deputies pursued until the suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle near South 110th Street and Pacific Avenue South at about 5:29 p.m., according to authorities. The suspect then ran and was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit near SR 512.
Four occupants of the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including 2 children, authorities said. A deputy was also injured and taken to a hospital. One vehicle caught fire.
Authorities said a firearm was visible inside the suspect vehicle. The vehicle will be seized pending a search warrant, and investigators plan to process the suspect for driving under the influence.
The Washington State Patrol and other agencies are assisting with the ongoing investigation. Authorities asked the public to avoid the area while deputies process the scene.
