Kaufman County, TX — A crash on westbound Interstate 20 injured nine people Saturday morning, leading to extended lane closures.

According to the Elmo Fire Department, emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 10:50 a.m. to a minor crash near mile markers 509 and 510. Shortly after, a more significant crash occurred near mile marker 511, prompting a request for mutual aid.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 20 were closed at mile marker 512 as multiple emergency agencies, including College Mound and Wills Point Fire Departments, responded. The Texas Department of Transportation provided traffic control assistance.

A total of 13 passenger vehicles and four 18-wheelers were involved, with first responders assessing 24 patients. Nine individuals were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that the incident began when a minor crash led to stopped traffic. Several drivers were traveling at unsafe speeds in wet conditions, resulting in a truck-tractor semi-trailer striking multiple vehicles and causing a chain reaction.

DPS is currently investigating the crash, with preliminary estimates indicating around 20 vehicles were involved. The roadway remained closed until approximately 3:30 p.m.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
