STURBRIDGE, Mass. — A woman died and a hotel guest was critically wounded after an SUV crash and shooting early Thursday, authorities said.
Police responded to reports of shots fired at a hotel after an SUV crashed into the building, causing damage, according to authorities.
Responding officers found a guest with an apparent gunshot wound outside the hotel. The victim was taken to Harrington Hospital and later airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.
Authorities said the woman believed to be the shooter died after the incident. Early said a preliminary investigation indicates she came to the hotel seeking two people she knew, and the wounded guest was not the intended target.
A witness reported the woman exited the SUV, shouted, and fired into a hotel room before the shooting, according to WCVB.
Investigators with the Worcester County District Attorney's Office are leading the probe with local police. No additional details were released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
