CHILDRESS, Texas (KVII) — A Texas state trooper was killed Wednesday in a crash following a traffic stop attempt on U.S. 287 near Childress.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Trooper Sergio Romero, 27, was conducting a traffic stop around 4:00 p.m. when a truck-tractor semi-trailer entered his path, leading to a collision.
Trooper Romero died at the scene. He previously served with the Hall County Sheriff's Office before joining DPS in 2025 and was stationed in Childress.
He is survived by his wife and two young sons. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
