Chrysler Recalls Over 61,000 Jeep Cherokees Due to Powertrain Issue
UNDATED (WKRC) – Chrysler has issued a recall for more than 61,000 Jeep Cherokee vehicles in the U.S. due to a potential powertrain failure.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects certain 2019 through 2023 Jeep Cherokee SUVs. Authorities reported that a defect in the power transfer unit (PTU) could lead to a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash and unintended vehicle movement.
The recall impacts an estimated 61,711 vehicles. Chrysler, a unit of FCA US LLC, stated that a remedy is still under development. Owners will receive notification letters starting June 25, detailing the safety risks. A follow-up notice will be issued once a fix is available.
In the interim, owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number 40D. Vehicle identification numbers associated with the recall will be searchable on the NHTSA website beginning May 14.
