Man Arrested After Striking Three Pedestrians in Denver Crosswalk

DENVER, CO — A man was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault after hitting three people in a crosswalk early Sunday morning at approximately 2:23 a.m.

According to authorities, Cesario Serrato, 56, left a parking lot at 2000 Larimer Street, crossed two lanes of traffic, and turned right onto 20th Street, where he struck the pedestrians. Investigators believe Serrato ran a red light during the incident, as reported by Denver Police Sergeant Katherine McCandless.

The crash occurred in the 1300 block of 20th Street, near Union Station and the Five Points neighborhood. Two pedestrians were knocked from the crosswalk, while one was dragged half a block under Serrato's vehicle. Witnesses reported that bystanders and officers had to lift the to free the injured .

The victims have not been identified, and updates on their conditions were not available by Tuesday. Authorities noted that Serrato was driving with a revoked license and exhibited signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

Paramedics transported Serrato to a hospital due to his “extreme level of intoxication.” He was later arrested and is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bail at Denver's downtown detention center. His next court date has not been scheduled as of Tuesday morning.
