Man Involved in Crash Kidnaps Witness Who Attempted to Call 911 and Drives Her Car for Hours.

AURORA, Colo. (WKRC) — A man was sentenced to 26 years in prison for kidnapping a witness following a crash on May 25, 2025.

According to the Pueblo County District Attorney's Office, Shane McSwane, 29, crashed his vehicle and subsequently forced his way into the of Grace Dotson, who had stopped to assist. He prevented her from making emergency calls and held her captive for four hours, driving erratically across multiple areas.

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office reported that McSwane used Dotson's vehicle to rob a Circle K convenience store. Law enforcement began pursuing the vehicle shortly after the robbery was reported.

Officers deployed stop sticks and performed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, successfully rescuing Dotson and arresting McSwane.

McSwane pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping and attempted aggravated robbery and was sentenced on June 12. He must serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
