On June 7 in St. Charles Parish, La., a suspected impaired driver fled an Interstate 310 stop and was injured after entering a swamp.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police, troopers initiated a traffic stop on I-310 after the driver was seen driving recklessly, striking a concrete barrier, and blowing a tire.

Authorities identified the driver as 40-year-old Victor Rivas. During a DWI investigation, Rivas fled on foot and jumped from the elevated portion of I-310 into the swamp below.

Authorities said Rivas re-entered a swampy area, was attacked by an alligator, and sustained injuries to both arms. He was found by a drone, taken into custody, and with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rivas was later arrested and booked on charges of operating a vehicle while impaired and resisting an officer, authorities said. No lane closures or tows were reported.
