Drunk Driving Crash Kills 12-Year-Old, Injures Mother and Sibling

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A 12-year-old girl was killed and her mother and sibling injured in a crash on the Gene Snyder Freeway near New Cut Road early Monday.

According to Louisville Metro Police, officers responded around 2:30 a.m. after a Dodge Durango struck a Jeep, causing it to overturn. The impact resulted in the ejection of 31-year-old Jasmine Simpson and her two children from the vehicle. Simpson and one child were transported to the hospital; the girl was at the scene.

Police arrested 34-year-old Renaldo James Gill, who exhibited signs of intoxication, including the smell of alcohol and glassy eyes. He faces charges of murder and driving under the influence with a suspended license.

Authorities reported that Simpson is also facing charges for wanton endangerment and failure to wear seat belts, as neither she nor the 12-year-old was secured, and the baby seat was improperly installed.

Community members expressed concern about the dangers of , urging individuals to utilize alternatives like ridesharing services if they choose to consume alcohol.
